Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice that originated in Japan in the early twentieth century. The word reiki combines the Japanese words rei (universal) and ki (life energy), reflecting the belief that a natural energy flows through all living things and that supporting this flow promotes health and wellbeing.
During a reiki session, you will lie fully clothed on a treatment couch in a calm, quiet environment. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above different areas of the body, working with your energy field to encourage relaxation and balance. Sessions are deeply restful — many people find themselves in a meditative state, and some drift off to sleep entirely.
People come to reiki for many different reasons. Some are looking for support with stress, anxiety or emotional overwhelm. Others find it helpful alongside conventional treatment for physical conditions, or simply as a regular practice for maintaining a sense of calm and equilibrium. Reiki is safe for most people and can be a gentle complement to other therapies.
Every experience is individual — some people notice warmth, tingling or a sense of release during a session, while others simply feel deeply relaxed. There is no right or wrong way to experience reiki.
